Classics of the high-end world

The HD 600 and HD 650 from Sennheiser have been synonymous with superb sound and optimum quality for many years now. The two classics among the high-end products from audio specialist Sennheiser continue to delight music lovers all over the world.

It all began with the HD 580, the founding father of Sennheiser's dynamic high-end model range. Launched in the early 1990s, it marked the beginning of the audio specialist’s success story in a high-end sector. Its successors, the HD 600 and HD 650, are still among the leading high-end headphones today. Both models are open, dynamic, hi-fi stereo headphones with highly optimised transducer systems. The HD 600 was introduced in 1996. Its computer-optimised magnet system geometry helps to dramatically reduce harmonic and intermodulation distortion. Extremely light aluminium drive coils ensure maximum transient response, while neodymium ferrous magnet systems guarantee maximum efficiency. The HD 600 provides highly accurate sound reproduction with a frequency response of 12 to 39,000 Hz. It is characterised by a very lifelike, spatial sound image.

Successful round the globe

As a consistent further development, the HD 650 was launched in 2003. It was adapted to changes in listening habits, with the result that its sound image became more bass-focused and more emotional than that of its predecessor. Specially developed acoustic silk with precisely constant attenuation keeps total harmonic distortion down to 0.05 percent (1 kHz). A refined damping element and resonance-reduced, compressed cellulose fleece minimise diaphragm resonance. All this results in an absolutely full-bodied and clear sound image with a frequency response of 10 to 39,500 Hz.

Which model sounds better cannot always be judged objectively. Cultural differences also play a role in such assessments. The fuller sound of the HD 650 with its more powerful bass is popular in Western countries in particular. Audio fans from Asian cultures, on the other hand, tend to prefer the more analytical sound of the HD 600. What both headphones have in common, however, is the passionate response they produce among music lovers around the globe. The HD 600 and HD 650 are still among the best and most well-loved high-end models. True classics, without a doubt.
