Michael has been in the pro market for the last 25 years. He started out as musician in his teens, and entered the studio world around 1992.
I used the VR Mic for capturing a live pop/rock concert from the tour with Danish veteran singer Ivan Pedersen and his band. The mic was placed in a short distance in front on the FOH desk in an acoustically well treated live venue, ”Portalen” (The Portal), with a total of around 750 people. It served as an audience/ambience pick-up microphone, and since the PA was well tuned and smooth sounding, it reliably mirrors that as well. Together with the traditional close stage microphones I have all colours on the palette.
„What I also like about the VR Mic is its possibilities to decode to any sound format, be it stereo, 5.1 or Ambisonics for VR.“
Apart from its obvious abilities to push the audio quality to a new realism in being present at a live concert, what I also like about the VR Mic is its possibilities to decode to any sound format, be it stereo, 5.1 or Ambisonics for VR. With that one microphone positioned thoroughly thought out, I get an ambience layer to work from for many different mixes. If I want, I can use only the rear pick up as audience channels as LS/RS to a surround mix or I can go the full way to base a mix for VR goggles on the AMBEO VR Mic.
